Operation Eagle Claw's anniversary .

AlJazeeraEnglish — April 25, 2010 — It has been 30 years since the US undertook Operation Eagle Claw - a failed military mission to rescue 52 diplomats and embassy staff taken hostage in Iran.

About 90 commandoes, eight helicopters and six aircraft landed in the Iranian desert on the first stage of the mission, but an accident resulted in the deaths of eight soldiers and it was called off.

Students plunges to death while fleeing religious officers.

GOMBAK: In his haste to escape punishment from religious officers, a college student who was alone with his girlfriend plunged to his death from the fifth floor of an apartment.

The 21-year-old student was believed to have panicked when several policemen and officers from the Selangor Religious Department knocked on the door of the rented apartment Saturday morning.

Smoking by Qatari diplomat forces down plane by F-16's

US air security authorities have scrambled military jets to force land an airliner after a passenger, a Qatari diplomat, lighted a cigarette in the aircraft's lavatory.

The US Northern Command authorized the escorting of a United Airlines Boeing 757 by two F-16 fighter jets after the pilot of the passenger plane signaled an in-flight incident, US media reported Wednesday.
